1st Class@Numbers 1 and 2 are Maths interventions here at Park View Junior School for children who need a helping hand to catch up with their peers. It is developed by Edge Hill University and it is delivered in addition to children's daily Maths lessons. It has been an enjoyable and valuable intervention for those children involved. We concentrate on key language/vocabulary to help us so that we can apply these skills in our maths lesson in class. Here are some of the topics we have covered so far:
Topic 1- Working with numbers Here we looked at how to count forwards and backwards in tens using number lines and tens cards.
Topic 2 - Exploring Place Value
In this topic we looked at using Tens and Ones on a 100 square and to be able to count forwards and backwards from any two digit number. We also used place value cards to partition numbers into tens and ones.
Topic 3/4 - Addition & Subtraction
In this topic we looked at counting in tens and ones using money and to be able to recall addition & subtraction facts looking at the inverse. We also looked at words such as difference, altogether, count on and back.
The 1st Class@Numbers 1 and 2 intervention has been completed by children throughout the school and pupils who participated in the intervention did extremely well and wrote letters to take home and share with their parents to show their achievements.
The intervention runs 4 times a week for half an hour. The children are taught in groups of 4.
