This year we are re-launching the ‘Times Table Challenge’. Children will be able to compete to earn ‘Monsters’. They will earn a ‘Monster’ for each level they complete. E.g. For completing a bronze times table they will receive 1 monster card, likewise for the silver and gold.
The times tables are split into 3 sections: Bronze, Silver and Gold.
The Bronze level will be learning the tables in order.
1 x 2 = ___ 2 x 2 = ___ 3 x 2 = ____
This must be completed within a 20 second time limit.
The Silver level will be 50 mixed sums e.g.
3x 2 = ___ 8 x 2 = ___ 5 x 2 = ___
This must be completed within a 2.00 minute time limit.
The Gold level will be the inverse e.g.
6 ÷ 2 = __ 8 ÷ 2 = __ 10 ÷ 2 = __
This must be completed within a 3.00 minute time limit.
The order the times tables need to be learnt in are as follows:
2, 5, 10, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9
Children have to complete the Bronze starting at 2s before moving onto the next coloured times table.
The aim is to work their way up and collect all the different monster cards.
There are 7 'bonus' cards. Three for completing work at home e.g. if they show evidence of learning the table they’re working on at home on 3 different occasions they get 3 different home cards and 3 trying hard cards for evidence of trying hard.
The last bonus card is for when they complete the whole challenge.
